Hunterdon Drug Awareness Program will be the community based substance abuse treatment
agency of choice for the greater Hunterdon County area. Through financial support from state, county, local and private
funding sources we will provide treatment to a broad range of clients. Our clients will experience an improvement in the
quality of their lives as a result of the treatment, intervention, and prevention programs that we provide. We will be a
highly professional and fiscally sound organization, with well trained and credentialed staff. We will utilize clinically
proven, science based treatment and prevention programming and practice within the highest ethical standards. We will
comply with all applicable licensure and regulatory standards and requirements.

Organizational History
|
|
Our first office opened in Lambertville in 1977 when concerned Lambertville
citizens requested that a rehabilitation facility in Trenton start a local
counseling center for substance abuse treatment. As our services expanded,
so did area support and interest. By 1981 we were incorporated as an independent
treatment and prevention agency serving Hunterdon County and surrounding areas
under a local Board of Directors. In 1984, having outgrown our original office
space, we moved to our current location.
We continued to expand our treatment, intervention and prevention programs
throughout the 1980's and 1990's to include more treatment and prevention alternatives,
as well as becoming the agency in charge of the Hunterdon
County Intoxicated Drivers Resource Center (IDRC). In 1998, the building we occupied experienced
a fire, forcing us to relocate temporarily. Since that time we have worked
hard to rebuild our organization, and we continue to strive towards servicing Hunterdon County with
the best possible substance abuse treatment, intervention and prevention services.

Philosophy
|
|
Our Philosophy is based on the premise that personal growth is a natural, life-long
process and that behaviors, thoughts and feelings which block that process can cause
much unproductive pain and confusion for both that person and his/her family members.
Through treatment and early intervention we provide clients and their families with
counseling and other support services as they confront their concerns and problems. We
also help them work toward positive goals. These services are available without regard
for the sex, race, creed, or ability to pay of the person (or family) requesting the
service.
