2010 Hunterdon Drug Awareness Program's 15th Annual Golf Classic

Hunterdon Drug Awareness Program's (HDAP) 15th Annual Golf Classic "Drive to be Drug Free" took place at the Oak Hill Golf Club, on May 10th. Weather continues to be an issue for us, as the last couple of years we have had less than optimal weather conditions, and this year was the same, as it was a bit on the cold and windy side. There were a total of 47 golfers, which is less than we had last year. Given the economy and the fact that there are many local organizations cancelling their golf events this year, we were extremely pleased that we were able to continue this fundraiser, and thankful for the continued fundraising assistance our golfing supporters provided us. As always, this event helped raise money that goes to supporting treatment services for those clients who otherwise could not afford receiving alcohol and/or other substance abuse treatment. We had some very competative golfing going on, the luncheon and dinner food was great as usual, and again there were great prizes given out. Prizes included golf foursomes, restaurant gift certificates, catering gift certificates, golf bags, and much more. This year we had very unique prize, a limited associate membership at Fox Hollow Golf Club valued at $1,325.00, which was won by Julie Moriarty, congratulations Julie!

The Board of Directors and Staff at HDAP would like to take this time to thank our golfers, our corporate and personal sponsors of this event, and our community members who made donations. It is with your support that we can continue the high quality drug and alcohol counseling and prevention programs to those Hunterdon County residents who could not otherwise afford to receive these services. During these tough economic times it is easy to pass on fundraising requests, and we are grateful for the continued generosity shown.

Golf Classic Winners
This year we decided to go back to a regular scramble format, where teams won first, second and third place (along with most honest foursome). However, we changed the scramble format in that we made winners in flights (first, second and third flight). The first flight team started with a team score of 68. The 2nd flight started at 72, and the third flight started at 78. The recipients of each flight are as follows:

  • First Flight Team Winner - Johanna Foods: Steven Steigerwalt, Dave Boerger, Paul Gibson, and Neil Brassel (Fiddler's Elbow Foursome and Lunch)
  • Second Flight Team Winner - Kenneth Kern, Jerry Kern, Rusty Kern, and Anthony Napurano (Stanton Ridge Foursome)
  • Third Flight Team Winner - Julie Moriarty, Joanne Byrnes, Larry Greene, and Frank Benick (Oak Hill Golf Club Foursome)
  • Most Honest Foursome - Fredetta McCormick, Patricia McKiernan, Emily Santowasso, and Sheryl Lazzarotti (A set of golf balls and a Minature Golf Foursome)
  • Closest to the Pin - Eric Kent with a 14 feet 8 inches shot ($100 Oak Hill Pro Shop Gift Certificate)
  • Longest Drive Male - Ken Harding ($50 Oak Hill Pro Shop Gift Certificate)
  • Longest Drive: Female - Fredetta McCormick ($50 Oak Hill Pro Shop Gift Certificate)
Nobody got within the circle to win the pot of gold this year, so all $185 went to HDAP to add to our fundraising efforts. This was the first year we have been to Oak Hill Golf Club since 2002, and if any golfers would like to provide us feedback as to whether or not they want to stay at Oak Hill, return to Copper Hill, or give any other type of feedback, please email us at gduncan@hdap.org.

Most Honest Foursome
Again the regular scramble format brought back the team prize for the most honest category. This special spotlight was awarded to Fredetta McCormick, Patricia McKiernan, Emily Santowasso, and Sheryl Lazzarotti. They each received a dozen golf balls and a golf foursome ... well a miniature golf foursome, but a golf foursome nonetheless.

It is the efforts like those of our graduates that this fundraiser helps. If you ever wondered what this is all about, please check the our coverage of our 5th Annual Client Graduation. This fundraising helps people like those who graduated this year. They continue to overcome their disease of addiction, and in the process get back into the workplace, rejoin with their family, and again become more productive members of their community. This fundraiser helps all that to happen and we would again like to thank all those who helped in this fundraising effort for HDAP!
