2011 16th Annual Golf Classic

Hunterdon Drug Awareness Program's (HDAP) 16th Annual Golf Classic "Drive to be Drug Free" took place at the Oak Hill Golf Club, on May 9th. Weather was not an issue this year, we had optimal weather conditions, temperatures around 75 and hardly a cloud in the sky! There were a total of 49 golfers, which is two more than we had last year. Given the economy and the fact that there are many local organizations cancelling their golf events in the past few years, we are extremely pleased that we were able to continue this fundraiser, and thankful for the continued fundraising assistance our golfing supporters provided us. As always, this event raises money that goes to supporting treatment services for those clients who otherwise could not afford receiving alcohol and/or other substance abuse treatment. We had some very competative golfing, the luncheon and dinner food was great as usual, and again there were great prizes. Prizes included golf foursomes, restaurant gift certificates, golf bags, 2 wills! and much more.

The Board of Directors and Staff at HDAP would like to thank our golfers, our corporate and personal sponsors, and community members who made donations. It is with your support that we can continue the high quality drug and alcohol counseling and prevention programs to those Hunterdon County residents who could not otherwise afford to receive these services. During these tough economic times it is easy to pass on fundraising requests, and we are grateful for the continued generosity shown by our supporters and by the community.

Golf Classic Winners
We used a scramble format winners in flights (first, second and third flight). The first flight team scored 66. The 2nd flight team scored 73, and the third flight team scored 75. The recipients of each flight are:

  • First Flight - Johanna Foods: Steven Steigerwalt, Dave Boerger, Ron Pfister, and Kevin McAlennan (Fiddler's Elbow Country Club Foursome and Lunch)
  • Second Flight - Janssen Pharmaceutica: Jon Donnelly, Ken Sheppard, Brian Quinn, and Dominic Guido (Stanton Ridge Country Club Foursome)
  • Third Flight - Barry Scheier, Danielle Scheier, and Tim Kulp (Oak Hill Golf Club Foursome)
  • Most Honest Foursome - Fredetta McCormick, Patricia McKiernan, Emily Santowasso, and Sheryl Lazzarotti (1/2 a dozen golf balls each, and a lesson with golf pro Michael Knight)
  • Closest to the Pin - Ken Harding with a 10 inches from the hole shot! ($50 Oak Hill Golf Club Gift Certificate)
  • Longest Drive Male - Kevin McAlennan ($50 Oak Hill Golf Club Gift Certificate)
  • Longest Drive: Female - Janne Byrnes ($50 Oak Hill Golf Club Gift Certificate)
Again, Ken Harding got within 10 inches of a hole in one on the pot of gold hole this year. $210 was collected, and $105 went to Ken. Ken donated all but the $20 purchase price back to HDAP to add to our fundraising efforts. THANK YOU KEN!

Most Honest Foursome
The regular scramble format brought back the team prize for the most honest category, golfing at a respectable 89. This special spotlight was awarded to Fredetta McCormick, Patricia McKiernan, Emily Santowasso, and Sheryl Lazzarotti. They each received a half a dozen balls each a golf lesson from Michael Knight.

Committee and Staff Volunteers
The Board and Staff at Hunterdon Drug Awareness Program would like to thank the Golf Classic Committee Members who worked very hard to make this event happen. They are:
  • Billye S. Byrum
  • James J. Casey
  • Glenn Duncan
  • Michael J. Griffin
  • Kenneth K. Harding (Chair)
  • Jill Piperata (Event Organizer)
  • Paul J. Santella
We would also like to recognize the Staff and Volunteers present at the day of the event that made this golf event run smooth. They are:
  • Susan Griffin
  • Mary Hanley
  • Mark Hodkinson
  • Donna Meck
  • Patty McDonnell
  • Jass Pelland
  • Jill Piperata
  • Clifford York

Additionally, we would like to recognize our client graduates who continue their strong recovery efforts and are beginning the process of giving back to the community. It is the efforts like those of our graduates that this fundraiser helps. If you ever wondered what HDAP is all about, please see the coverage of our 6th Annual Client Graduation. This fundraising helps people like those who graduated this year. They continue to overcome their addiction, and in the process get back into the workplace, rejoin with their family, and again become more productive members of their community. This fundraiser helps ensure this access occurs for people regardless of their ability to pay. We again would like to thank all those who helped in this fundraising effort for HDAP!
