Revelation Generation 2006
Hunterdon Drug Awareness Program (HDAP) participated in the Revelation Generation 2006
Christian Rock Event. Our theme this year was in support of our ongoing prevention and treatment efforts to help the public, and
those affected by substance abuse, become more aware of the needs in overcoming addiction. This years theme is "Shed Light on Addiction."
Approximately 2,000 - 3,000 people attended this years concert, to hear music and speakers talk about many topics including
substance abuse. The promoters were hoping for close to 10,000 people, and a staff member stated that approximately 4,000 tickets were presold for the
event.
By becoming a sponsor of Revelation Generation, HDAP is partly responsible for helping to provide one of the
largest one-day drug/alcohol awareness messages in Hunterdon County. Approximately 2,000 - 3,000 people attended the event, and most went through the largest and dryest
area in the event, the Vendor's Marketplace. This marketplace was jam packed from the beginning until the event was called at approximately 4:30 p.m. Over 1,000 people visited our booth, and over 600 “Shed Light on Addiction” flashlights were given out.
HDAP was one of three addiction recovery vendors at Revelation Generation, all of whom provided people with information for prevention and referral of substance abuse issues.
The other drug/alcohol vendors at this event were Good News Home for Women and Overcomers In Christ. Both of these
organizations provide a faith based approach to addiction treatment (Good News Home) and self help (Overcomers In Christ), where HDAP represented the secular based alternative for
treatment and self help.
This continues as the largest drug/alcohol awareness campaign associated with a faith based movement effort in Hunterdon County.
Despite the rain, this was by far one of HDAP’s largest information dissemination events regarding drugs
and alcohol, as well as one of the best for Hunterdon County in terms of reaching so many people in one day. Usually, you
reach 30 people in a classroom, 300 or so in a school auditorium, or hopefully hundreds by putting up a stand at an event
or an article in the paper. HDAP continues to commend Bob and Kim Grom for their vision of highlighting addiction recovery awareness
into the very fabric of the Christian Rock Fest, Revelation Generation, and providing such a large scale alcohol free event
to the youth of Hunterdon County and surrounding areas.

The Good, the Bad and the Muddy
We had another great event planned for Revelation Generation, which we had to forgo because the constant rainfall from the remnants of tropical storm Ernesto. Last year we had people
participate in an event where they built a house of recovery by giving their thoughts on addiction and addiction recovery. This year
we had planned a 9' x 12' mural that would have people participate by giving their thoughts on how best to 'Shed Light on Addiction.'
The rain caused this event to be cancelled and we switched to a pure information dissemination booth. It was a good thing that we cancelled it
because it was going to take place right outside where our booth was, and as you can see from the pictures, the rain kept coming,
and coming, and coming (which eventually caused flooding right where the project would take place). This project was a tremendous undertaking that was
the work of Tara Dyer and Mary Hanley. Their hard work will only be postponed as we will use this project on the next large public event
we participate in (hopefully RevGen 2007). However, because of the rain, it is possible that we got just as much activity from people (getting
drug/alcohol information out to the public) that we would have if it was a larger turnout on a sunny day.

Wet Weather Generation
The rain did not stop, and the mud became problematic as you can see by our pictures. The earth became soft, and puddles deepened and widened.
The main stage never opened due to the rain, and "the edge" stage did open with musical acts performing on that stage till approximately 4 p.m. It was
around this time that organizers decided to cut the event short, as there appeared to be no end to the rain in sight. This was a good call because the rain
continued in the area until 9-10 p.m. that night. The
driving out was tricky at best, as two of our staff members needed assistance getting out of the parking lot because of the mud and rain. Even though the event was
eventually called, HDAP was able to put out a lot of information to people, and hope to continue participating in this great project for as long
as they decided to keep holding it.
