Revelation Generation 2008
Hunterdon Drug Awareness Program (HDAP) again proudly participated in the Revelation Generation 2008
Christian Rock Event on August 29th and 30th. Our theme this year was "Color Your World Drug Free", which built on our popular mosaic theme from last year, "Shed Light on Addiction"
and our initial theme at Revelation Generation "Recovery Begins With ...". Over 25,000 people attended this years concert; the best showing yet, for this
four year old annual event.
Executive Assistant Jill Piperata spoke for a few minutes on the (main) New York Stage, at 5 p.m., while Office Manager Cindi McCormack and Executive Director Glenn Duncan threw out colored stress balls to the crowd.
Jill spoke about the drugs which are commonly abused in Hunterdon County, and she talked about the hundred's of people who already had stopped by HDAP's tent; many of them knowing the impact substance abuse
has caused to their family or friends. Jill then went on to ask the crowd to visit HDAP's tent, as well as the other substance abuse focused programs in the marketplace. For more information on drug abuse patterns in Hunterdon County, please
read our newsletter.
By becoming a sponsor of Revelation Generation, HDAP is partly responsible for helping to provide one of the
largest two-day drug/alcohol awareness messages in Hunterdon County. Over 25,000 people attended the event, and many went through
the Vendor's Marketplace. This marketplace was jam packed from the day's beginning until the event was over at approximately 10 p.m. Well over 1,200 people visited our booth, and over
900 "Color Your World Drug Free" stress balls and beach balls were given out. Towards the end of the day, you could see dozens of adolescent's and youth having good clean fun playing with the
stress and beach balls. HDAP was one of three addiction recovery programs at Revelation Generation, all of whom provided people with information for prevention and referral of substance abuse issues.
The other drug/alcohol programs at this event were Good News Home for Women and Overcomers In Christ. Both of these
organizations provide a faith based approach to addiction treatment (Good News Home) and self help (Overcomers In Christ), where HDAP represented the secular based alternative for
treatment and self help.

Actor/Activist Steven Baldwin Stops By
As we continued the largest drug/alcohol awareness campaign associated with a faith based movement effort in Hunterdon County for our 4th year in a row, this year we were visited by a celebrity. Steven Baldwin visited our tent and
talked to our staff about our mission to help those who need treatment in the greater Hunterdon County. Steven Baldwin was at Revelation Generation as one of the keynote speakers. He told our staff that addiction recovery is something
that is close to his heart and efforts over the past 19 years. HDAP continues to commend Bob and Kim Grom for their vision of highlighting addiction recovery awareness
into the very fabric of the Christian Rock Event, Revelation Generation, and providing such a large scale drug/alcohol free event
to the youth of Hunterdon County and surrounding areas.

The Globe Mosaic
Last Year we had a very successful butterfly mosaic, which we used to help our "Shed Light on Addiction" theme. We brought the finished mosaic back for this year's participants to see the completed work.
One person (in the picture to your left) remembered exactly where her piece was placed last year and posed for a picture with her mother. This mosaic had an obvious lasting impact. This year we decided to continue with last year's
mosaic theme, given the popularity of the project. Prevention Director Mary Hanley (pictured with the mosaic to the left) and her daughter Michelle created the mosaic globe for which pieces were placed on. This globe mosaic received a tremendous response. There are over 900 pieces placed by individuals who
came through our tent, many of which shared on an index card who they were dedicating their piece to and why. This project was so popular that the crowd at the HDAP tent became overwhelming at times. Addiction's impact in people's lives is
unfortunately wide spread, and we at HDAP will continue to work to bring awareness and treatment opportunites to any Hunterdon County resident who needs care, regardless of their ability to pay. We would like to thank Mary for her many
years of service and the creativity she has brought to HDAP.

The Dedications
Part of the Globe Mosaic (and the 2007 Butterfly mosaic) was the ability for people to dedicate their mosaic piece to somebody struggling with recovery, or in recovery. If they
didn't want to share about somebody struggling with an addiction, then they could write about anyone struggling with something in their life (for example, anger management).
No matter what the problem was, each person had the ability to write a message of support they wanted to pass on to the person they dedicated their mosaic tile to.
Over 450 people decided to write a message of support. You can see
these messages written on colored index cards in the pictures to your left. As we did last year, we will put these messages into a book at HDAP and have it in the waiting room for viewing.
Last year's book was viewed by many who entered into treatment at HDAP, as well as visitors. This can be a source of inspiration to those seeking help, and at the very least
can help those in the grips of addiction know that they are not alone, and that there is a community of people out there willing to support their efforts at sobriety.
