Dan the Man Run for Recovery 5k Raises Over $7,500
Dan The Man Run for Recovery 5k completed our second year with a successful event!
Last year Hunterdon Drug Awareness Program decided to partner with the Snel Family in memory of their son, Daniel, who tragically died from a drug overdose. This year was our 2nd annual Dan the Man Run for Recovery 5k. The run is not only a fundraiser but an important social event that brings both awareness about addiction and support for those who have lost a loved one due to overdose.
Dan's mom, Betsy and all of Dan's , family and friends worked hard to. fundraise and promote participation for the run.
The speeches before the run were both powerful and inspiring. Betsy spoke lovingly of her son, Dan and why it is so important to reduce the stigma of addiction and overdose. Elizabeth spoke powerfully of how she has maintained recovery for 3 years from heroin and sees the hope in others finding recovery themselves. Last year during the run, she feared her brother was not open to the steps needed to recover and this year she had to make a ribbon for her brother who sadly passed away from overdose not long ago. John presented education and excellent metaphors that helped the runners and walkers better understand the desire and loss of control in addiction. Finally, Dan's cousin, Christopher, helped kicked off the run with a fitting tribute of love.
We had great luck with perfect weather and the park was as beautiful as ever. WE RAISED $7,500.
70% of that money is donated to HDAP and 30% is given to two deserving High School Seniors with the Daniel Snel Memorial Scholarship.
